Tropical Storm Loul approached the western islands of Hawaii with speeds exceeding ۱۷۵ kilometers per hour, causing significant damage. Residents of Kauai and Niihau are on high alert.

Tropical Storm Loul, while rapidly approaching the western islands of Hawaii, has raised significant concerns among residents in these areas. This storm, classified as a Category ۲ hurricane, was only ۴۰ to ۶۰ miles away from the two sparsely populated islands of Niihau and Kauai. Following this storm, reports indicate that ۹۱ percent of customers in Kauai are without power.

Severe Weather and Widespread Damage

According to local officials, damage assessments from the storm will begin immediately after weather conditions improve. So far, over ۲۰,۰۰۰ households on the island of Oahu, where Hawaii's capital is located, have been left without power. Kauai officials have warned residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel so that rescue teams can continue their work and assess the damage.

Flood and Tornado Storm Risks

Meanwhile, residents of Kauai and Niihau have also been cautioned about tornado storms, although it is still unclear whether these storms have actually occurred. Loul is approaching the islands with wind speeds of nearly ۱۱۰ miles per hour, and it is predicted that rainfall between four to eight inches in Kauai could lead to severe flooding and landslides. Additionally, tidal storms of two to four feet in height could also result in flooding in coastal areas.

This comes as Hawaii is still recovering from the effects of Tropical Storm Lala, which impacted the southern parts of the Big Island last month. Storm Lala also caused significant damage with destructive winds and flash flooding.

The impacts of climate change on El Niño, which is recognized as a natural cycle in the Pacific Ocean, have led to increased storm intensity and altered weather patterns. This cycle occurs every two to seven years, and it appears that climate change is exacerbating the global effects of El Niño.
