The French startup Mistral, recognized as one of the leading developers of artificial intelligence models in Europe, is on the brink of a major leap with new funding valued at ۲۱ billion euros. This funding round, led by chip giant Samsung, is set to accelerate the startup's research and allow it to expand rapidly on an international level.
Key Role in the AI Market
The estimated value of this company has approximately doubled, reflecting its significant growth from a year ago. Mistral, which is not yet as well-known as AI giants like OpenAI or Anthropic, is striving to carve out a unique position in the market by offering models that companies can run with their own data. Arthur Mench, the CEO and one of the co-founders of the company, stated, "This funding round allows us to move faster in research and development, products, and infrastructure, enabling organizations to implement AI according to their needs."
Global Outlook and Price Competition
Mistral is also looking to strengthen its position in the market with increased infrastructure costs this year, including the construction of its first data center in France. Last July, the company signed an agreement with Microsoft to provide AI computing capacity and offers its models to customers of this American tech giant. Johan Bergquist, CFO of Mistral, highlighted the importance of scale in integrating AI capabilities, stating that the company can develop new models at a lower cost than many of its competitors.
Moreover, Mistral appeals to companies concerned about their data being exposed to large American firms, as the AI models and their outputs remain within the organization. This perspective on digital sovereignty has led French authorities to replace Palantir's data systems for their intelligence services last June, opting instead for a domestic supplier.
Mistral's models are also being used to launch a tool in the French government for some government departments. Bergquist added, "We want to expand across Europe, where we are strongest, but also in the Middle East, Asia, and North America. Currently, demand is increasing in all these regions."
