Temporary Ceasefire; Will Peace Talks in Ukraine Yield Results?

While the war in Ukraine continues, American representatives have recently traveled to Moscow to initiate talks aimed at ending this crisis. Steve Witkoff, a business partner of the former President of the United States, and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, are seeking to revive peace negotiations during this trip.

Open Discussions and Serious Plans

This meeting comes as the war in Ukraine has been ongoing since ۲۰۲۲ with Russia's invasion, and the country currently occupies vast areas of eastern and southern Ukraine. During this meeting, both sides discussed serious plans for the next phase of negotiations, which are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. One of the Kremlin's advisors, Yuri Ushakov, described these discussions as "very candid" and stated that the American representatives presented various ideas for reaching an agreement.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also announced that his country is ready to refrain from attacking Moscow for three days. This decision was made to create a conducive atmosphere for negotiations.

Is Peace Possible?

However, the situation is not progressing easily. Both sides are openly attacking each other, and while Vladimir Putin has thanked the American representatives for their efforts, there is no information regarding the success of these negotiations. Zelensky has also pointed to Russia's ongoing attacks on civilian areas, describing these attacks as an attempt to disrupt the visit of the American representatives.

This trip to Kyiv marks the eighth visit for Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow during the Ukraine war, and it seems that this time there are different conditions for reaching an agreement. But can these negotiations ultimately lead to the end of a war that has left over ۴۰۰,۰۰۰ dead and millions displaced?
