In a world filled with social crises, the art of photography can depict silent stories. Tato, the Spanish photographer, brought home the prestigious Visa d'Or News award for his exceptional coverage of the Generation Z protests in Madagascar. This success not only showcases his photographic skills but also demonstrates how images can convey a nation's voice to the world.

Generation Z Protests; The Voice of Madagascar's Youth

The protests in Madagascar began in September ۲۰۲۵ when students took to the streets due to inefficient public services, corruption, and economic issues. This social movement quickly spread, and when President Andry Rajoelina dissolved his government but refused to resign, the protests intensified.

Tato, based in Kenya, works as a news photographer covering East Africa and the Indian Ocean region. He has consistently gained attention in this field with his works and has achieved success in several international photography competitions, including winning three times at the World Press Photo contests.

Tribute to the Festival Founder and Madagascar's Youth

At the award ceremony, Tato paid tribute to the festival's founder, Jean-François Leroy, who recently passed away. He recalled that Leroy first gave him the opportunity to showcase his work in ۲۰۱۸ and had a profound impact on his professional life.

Tato also praised the youth of Madagascar, stating that they understood well how important it was to tell their story. With his courage and creativity, this photographer has not only captured historical moments but has also become a source of inspiration for other photographers and social activists through the images he has shared.
