A school principal in Nepal, upon receiving the alarming news "a flood is coming" from his accountant, decided to immediately evacuate the school. He said in an interview, "We evacuated the school quickly, and teachers helped to move students from classrooms to higher ground."
Timely Evacuation Saves Lives
Just minutes later, he witnessed the collapse of his school, where he had worked for years to educate students. "If the information was wrong, we would have only lost a day of schooling, but if it was true, we would have lost our lives."
In this incident, five students and one teacher lost their lives. The principal emphasized the lack of evacuation planning by local authorities, stating that some residents were swept away while trying to cross a bridge.
Suffering in the Flood
Santoshi Dotel, a ۱۷-year-old student, was in accounting class when she heard the evacuation news. At first, she couldn't grasp the extent of the danger and even went towards the river to reach her family. But when the water rose rapidly, the bridge beneath her and her friends collapsed, and she became extremely frightened.
After hours of worry, Santoshi finally reunited with her family. With tears in her eyes, she recounted the moment her mother embraced her and cried heavily. This mother had lost hope before seeing her daughter.
The school principal described this incident as "far worse" compared to the ۲۰۱۵ earthquake in Nepal. He said, "The school was rebuilt after the earthquake, but now we have lost the land and the building, and we need a new school."
