Following severe storms caused by the effects of a tropical storm, a giant sinkhole has appeared on the property of Hollywood star Nicolas Cage in Malibu. This sinkhole, which some reports estimate to be ۱۸ meters long, has rapidly deepened to a depth of ۷.۵ meters.
Destruction Risk in Luxury Areas of Malibu
Images released of this sinkhole show that it contains concrete, tiles, and even a portable toilet, which appears to have been placed there for workers engaged in renovations on this multi-million dollar property. Malibu city officials have issued an evacuation order for dozens of homes in the area due to serious hazards and stated that "the Malibu city emergency services director has declared a local state of emergency."
This sinkhole has formed as turbulent waves from the Pacific Ocean severely damage the shores of the area. Cage purchased this property for $۱۰.۵ million, and it now seems that his home is in serious danger. Local officials have warned affected residents in the area and encouraged them to evacuate their homes.
Consequences of Climate Change
In southern Los Angeles, trucks have placed large boulders on the shores of Dana Point to protect other properties. In this area, seven homes have been declared uninhabitable due to land erosion, with one partially falling into the sea. Climate experts say that recent storms caused by remnants of Hurricane Maria are creating dangerous waves and coastal erosion.
Climate change driven by human activities seems to have intensified these storms, resulting in risks for coastal areas. While the storm has hit Hawaii with strong winds and heavy rainfall, the effects of these storms are expected to continue on the shores of California.
